Another day, another job to do!
Alright, so today I'm focusing on Gus's project, mainly focusing on art direction and organization. Love Gus, the man can take brilliant pictures and write fantastic articles, but he gets LOST when it comes to art direction. No issue though, cause lucky for him, that's my favorite part of this project.
I started by editing the pictures he took with my favorite app ever, Polarr, and reworking his cover page, Originally we had this weird faceless body and a bunch of frames and graphic lines, but it made the magazine just seem really amateur, so we scrapped it and I came up with this one. I like it a lot more because it looks really clean and professional, which fits the alternative fashion magazine brand really well. We also decided on again not including a direct face because, despite genre conventions, we're producing an alternative fashion magazine, which gives us a lot more freedom in terms of the things we can do in production. We thought excluding the face would be a good choice because fashion magazines have become somewhat centered on celebrities and their life, rather than the fashion itself. Our magazine is about fashion, not about the person wearing it, so we thought centering the pictures on the clothes rather than the faces would encourage that perspective.
Other than that, I worked on the table of contents, ads and the organization of the article. I'm leaving the rest up to Gus to work on, but I trust he's going to create a great magazine.
I also started writing my article for my own issue. I was a little worried at first because I didn't really know where I wanted to start, but once I started doing some research into the topic, the article just flowed out of me. I'm going to keep working on it this week while helping Gus and making the crowns since its something easy I can work on in class or even on my phone with minor complications.
Signing off for now
